Links
On the web are many thousands of websites. It would be impossible to list them all or even to keep the list current. However, there is such a list of genealogy/family-history websites. It is called Cyndi’s list and currently has more than 337,000 links. It started in 1995 by Cyndi in Milton, Washington. Cyndi works every day searching for new sites and.users send her e-mail as they find new sites. The site has about 250 categories. I do not know the technical details of how she finds sites, but I suspect she may have data-mining software. I know she works with a company that is involved in finding spam. She also has software on her site that scans her many thousands of links to see if they are still active. She can then remove dead sites. Cyndi is the author of three books on genealogical research and the internet:
- Planting Your Family Tree Online
- Cyndi’s List: A Comprehensive List of 70,000 Genealogy Sites on the Internet
- Netting Your Ancestors : Genealogical Research on the Internet
Cyndi’s website is: Cyndi’s List – United States
